To help your hair extensions last as long as possible, it’s important that your hair is prepared correctly before your fitting. Oils and product build-up can cause extensions to slip, so arriving with freshly cleansed hair makes a big difference.
A couple of hours before your extension appointment, please wash your hair using a clarifying shampoo, making sure to wash it twice for a thorough cleanse. This will remove any excess oils that naturally build up.
You’re welcome to use conditioner, but only on the mid-lengths and ends — please avoid the roots.
After washing, do not apply any styling products before drying your hair.
If you’d prefer us to wash your hair for you instead, just let us know when booking — we’re happy to do so.
Looking after your extensions properly will help keep them feeling comfortable, looking beautiful, and lasting as long as possible. Here are our gentle guidelines to help you care for them at home:
Please don’t wash your hair for 48 hours after your extensions are fitted — this allows them to settle securely.
Try to avoid wearing your hair in tight, high ponytails or buns, as these can add extra tension to the extensions.
To keep your extensions soft and healthy, apply a little oil to the mid-lengths and ends every day before brushing.
We recommend brushing your hair when you wake up and before you go to bed, and also before washing to ensure all knots and tangles are removed.
At night, tie your hair in a loose ponytail or plait to help prevent matting while you sleep.
Please use only a Tangle Teezer or Tangle Tamer to brush your hair. Start from the ends and gently work your way up, remembering to hold the tabs to avoid any tension on your scalp.
Always use sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, and treat your hair to a moisture mask once a week for extra nourishment.
When washing your hair, avoid leaning over the bath or washing upside down, as this can cause tangling.
And please avoid products containing protein, which can dry out extension hair.
After washing, make sure you blow-dry your hair — extensions should not be left to dry naturally.
Try not to let your hair get too oily, as this can cause the extensions to loosen. Washing 2–3 times a week is usually ideal.
Avoid using dry shampoo near the tabs, as it can make them slip.
And finally, keep fake tan, body lotions, sunscreen and perfume away from your extensions, as these products can cause discolouration.
